The Chidhakaashyog School
Programmes - Kochi
by Bobji
(29th – 31st August 2005)
He is called “the son of Sun”, the dedicated child of Mother Nature. And it seems that he is very special for Mother as it appears She listens to him. When he says the rain will stop – it stops. He opens his arms to the skys in the rain, surrenders his heart to Mother Nature requesting her help and . . . . She listens. The rain stops. We have seen this happen on several occasions. Times when organizers of Suryayog presentations were frustrated and deeply concerned over incremental weather asking him if they should postpone the programme, he simply says: “Have you no faith! Nothing will happen. Go ahead with the programme.” Such is his self-confidence. “We are doing Her work. We love Her so much. We have surrendered our lives for Her. She listens and helps. But you have to have faith. Without that, you can’t do anything.”
When we arrived in Kochi on the 28th August 2005, Swami sent a group of us to visit some schools to organize a presentation on Chidhakaashyog meditation for the students. We didn’t have any school contacts, but in obedience and with faith we visited a number of schools talking with the heads of the institutions about Chidhakaashyog and requesting them to allow us to introduce meditation to their students. Initially we met with some resistance as school examinations were imminent and the administration did not want to take time out of the studies for the students.
Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan - Girinagar
In one school, Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan - Girinagar, the head mistress, Srimathi Nirmala Padmanaban was open to the idea but said she could only authorize the programme if the director of the school agreed. This gave us the opportunity to meet the Director of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Mr. Govindan. He was very cordial and after hearing our proposal was extremely happy to expose the children not only in that school but suggested we conduct the programme in ALL the seven Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan schools in the Kochi area. He understood the value and benefits for the students to learn meditation. With his permission, we happily presented Chidhakaashyog beginning in their school at Kaloor on Tuesday, 30th August.
That morning all the children were hesitant to come out into the open assembly area as it was raining. Surya Jowel stood for a few moments in the open with his arms raised to the heavens. Then he called upon all the children to raise their hands and pray to Mother Earth to stop the rain for an hour. It was an inspiring sight to see over 2,000 stretched arms towards the heavens of children praying in unison for help. And lo and behold, the rain within a few minutes stopped! The children were amazed and excited. It became the ‘talk of the school’. Many of the students then came out into the open assembly area. However others who still doubted if the rain would really stop or not, stayed close to their classrooms under the saja of the classroom building listening from a distance.

With all enthusiasm and interest Bobji, a Suryayogi, began to present the Chidhakaashyog programme to the assembly. They loved it! Not only was it very informative but fun as well with all participating in the meditation practice. Towards the end of the presentation when he mentioned about Suryayog and the benefits of receiving the healing energies from the Sun, as if on a special stage call, all were graced with the Sun’s beautiful sunlight as well! Was it another miracle or coincidence?. . . No, it was Mother Nature again showing her bountiful love and help.
The second day of the presentation at the school was another thrilling experience with all the students and teachers participating in the Chidhakaashyog meditation session. The students were very excited when they were given their very own Chidhakaashyog symbol at the end of the session so they could practice at home. Needless to say the teachers and administration were very thankful to the Suryayog Foundation for conducting these most beneficial and informative meditation sessions.

Navy Children’s School
Although examinations were beginning, Mr. Henry Jayakaran, the Principal at the Navy Children’s School at Kochi Navel Base was very cooperative and immediately arranged on the spot some time for us to give an initial talk about Chidhakaashyog meditation to the Yoga Class of about 120 students on the 29th of August. Dr. Debala the school’s yoga teacher was very enthusiastic with the session, as were the students. So much so, they requested us to return the following day to give the programme to all classes from 5th std and above.
The following day our Chidhakaashyog troop presented the Chidhakaashyog programme to some 800 enthusiastic students in the Navy school. Dr. Debala, impressed with the technique met with Surya Jowel along with her family on several occasions to clarify the process and be blessed for its continuance in the Navy school on a regular basis. She also learned Suryayog and has become one of the dedicated teachers of the Suryayog technique in Kochi.
Kendriya Vidyalaya - Naval Base, Kochi
Our third Chidhakaashyog school programme was held at the Kendriya Vidyalaya school on the Naval base on Venthuruthy Island. Initially we were asked to give the programme to some 650 students. It was so well received another two student groups were organized by the administration an hour later to benefit another 200 and 650 students in the school. The entire school’s student strength of some 1,650 children were introduced to meditation that day by the Suryayog Foundation presenters.
In summation, the Chidhakaashyog School Meditation presentation programmes at Kochi were a big success. The students, teachers and staff have all voiced their sincere appreciation to Surya Jowel and the Foundation presenters for their selfless work giving all a good understanding of what meditation is, its purpose and a powerful, simple technique to increase one’s self-confidence, concentration ability, memory power, will power and love for Mother through Chidhakaashyog.
